The expression is
y=|3x-1|-5.

Explanation:

A shift is a rigid translation in that it does not change the shape or size of the graph of the function. All that a shift will do is change the location of the graph.

A horizontal shift adds/subtracts a constant to/from every x-coordinate while leaving the y-coordinate unchanged.


f(x + k) translates
f (x) left or right.

  • if
    k > 0, the graph translates to the left k units.
  • if
    k < 0, the graph translates to the right k units.

We need to write an expression for the the function
f(x)=y=|3x|-5 when we translate it one unit to the right.

According with the definition of horizontal shift all we need to do is subtract -1 inside of the absolute value.

So, the expression is
y=|3x-1|-5.
