This is so because thanks to this historical process, new raw materials were introduced in Europe, increasing the availability of goods at a low cost. Thus, Europe was able to resolve some situations of famine and tension due to the shortage of products.

On the other hand, in the new world the situation was not so positive. Although new plant and animal species were introduced to the American continent (some of special importance such as horses), the greatest weight of this exchange process was the transfer of certain diseases from Europe to America, such as smallpox. These diseases devastated indigenous populations, because they did not have antibodies to deal with these pathogens.
