In Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle why the management of Durham’s allows these things to happen inside their factory and to their product.

There was not an FSIS or any other government regulations back then so factories weren’t given standards to meet. Therefore they didn’t worry about safety and health, they just wanted more profit and upgrading safety and throwing out food would lower the profit being made so they didn’t worry about it.
