A “stick” object of height 10 cm is standing in front of a point X–ray source at a distance of 50 cm from the source. The detector is 2 m away from the source. What is the height of the image?

Answer:

40 cm.

Explanation:

Given,

height of the object = 10 cm

Distance of the object from the X-ray= 50 cm

Distance of detector from the source = 2 m = 200 cm

Height of the image, h = ?

Now,


\tan \theta = (P)/(B)


\tan \theta = (10)/(50)


\tan \theta = (1)/(5)

Again applying


\tan \theta = (P)/(B)


(1)/(5) = (h)/(200)

h = 40 cm

Hence, height of the image is equal to 40 cm.
