The map below shows the path that Jin walked this morning. According to his pedometer, the total distance of this path was 2.3 kilometers.

A walking path is 1.1 + 4.8 + 2.2 + 3.4 centimeters long.

What is the scale of the map?
1 centimeter = 2 kilometers
1 centimeter = 5 kilometers
2 centimeters = 1 kilometer
5 centimeters = 1 kilometer

Answer:

D. 5cm = 1 km

Explanation:

When we look at the map we see different distances in different directions. Once we add all of the distances up we get 11.5 cm. Now, all we have to do is divide that by 2.3 km. 11.5/2.3 = 5 cm. So the scale for the map is 5 centimeters = 1 kilometer.

Hope this helps!

Answer:

5 centimetres = 1 kilometre

Explanation:

First add up the distances measured on the map.

1.1+4.8+2.2+3.4=11.5 cm

Based on this, since the number of cm is greater than the number of km, we can figure out that each cm should not be multiplied to get the km, so we can eliminate the first two answers.

Next write an equation to represent finding the scale

x=scale

11.5=2.3x

Now solve for the scale

11.5/2.3=2.3x/2.3

5=x

Therefore the scale is 5 centimetres = 1 kilometre
