Answer:

number of free throws made by Henry = 2

Number of two point shots by Henry = 7

Explanation:

Let the number of free throws be X

Number of two point shots be Y

Now given in the question

Total number of shots= 9

writing the equation for this mathematically we have

X + Y = 9

X = 9 - Y (A)

Another condition is total points scored by Henry which is 16.

Free shot worth 1 point and two points shots worth 2 point.

number of free points in X throws = 1 * X = X

number of two points in Y throws = 2 * Y = 2Y

Therefore writing mathematically for total point we have equation given below

X + 2Y = 16 (B)

Substituting value of X from equation A in equation B we have

9 - Y + 2Y = 16

=> 9 + Y = 16

=> Y = 16 - 9 = 7

Substituting value of Y in equation A we have

X = 9 - Y

=> X = 9 - 7 = 2

Therefore

number of free throws made by Henry = X = 2

Number of two point shots by Henry = Y = 7
