y= 5x -3 -----(1)

y= 3x +1 -----(2)

susbt. (1) into (2):

5x-3= 3x+1

5x-3x= 3+1 (bring x terms to 1 side, constant to the other)

2x= 4 (simplify)

x= 4÷2

x= 2

subst. x=2 into (2):

y= 3(2) +1

y= 6+1 (expand)

y= 7
