A QUESTION ON MATH

A university student can choose one elective course for his study from two different faculties.
Faculty A provides 15 courses and faculty B provides 31 courses. How many choices are there for the student if
(a) all the courses provided are different?
(b) 2 courses from faculties A and B are the same?​

a) all different causes means that’s the total is 15 + 31
so therefore: 15 +31 = 46

b) if two causes are the same that means that there are no longer 46 different causes because 2 of the 46 are the same so we consider the same causes as 1 cause
therefore: 46-1=45
