angle C = 90 degrees

triangle ABC is a right triangle

(AB )^2 = (AC)^2 + (BC)^2 by Pythagorean theorem

so

(AB)^2 = 6^2 + 8^2 = 36 + 64 = 100

AB = square root of 100 = 10

so AO = (1/2) *AB = (1/2)*10 = 5
