Scientists have found evidence that many volcanic eruptions and their debris slowed (RESPIRATION OR PHOTOSYNTHESIS) and the amount of carbon dioxide in the oceans (INCREASED OR DECREASED) . Organisms could not adjust to these changes fast enough and a mass extinction followed.
