If you have two numbers and add the first number to 4 times the second, you would get 30. If the second number is added to 4 times the first, you would get 15. What are the two numbers ?

Explanation:

Make 2 simultaneous equations:

1st number = x

2nd number = y

X+4y=30

Y+4x=15

Times one equation by 4:

4x+16y=120

Then solve by subtracting the two equations:

4x+16y=120

Y+4x=15

= 15y = 105

Y=7

Then substitute y in to find x:

X+4(7)=30

X+ 28=30

X= 2

Therefore the first number is 2 and the second number is 7
