You know the factors have to look like this:

(a+x)(a+y) where x and y are real numbers.

you need to find two numbers where x+y=3 and x*y=2

these are 1 and 2.

this equals is zero if one of the factors equal zero.

a+1=0 -> a=-1

a+2=0 ->a=-2

So first we will multiply 2 by 1 now we have to find the factors of 2 so it is just 2

a2 + 2a + a + 2 = 0

a ( a + 2) +1 ( a + 2) =0

(a + 2) and ( a + 1) are the factors
