  • The more people that settled westward more territories were formed now the Missouri compromise stated that slavery was only allowed in the South. California joined the U.S California voted to be a free slave state meaning slavery was illegal, the southern states got mad and stated half of California was in the south of Missouri then congress made a law stating territories can be slave states if they wanted to. Kansas became a territory and many people from around the country wanted to decide Kansas decision on slavery and this led to a revolt between pro slavery and abolitionist. then Abraham Lincoln became president and the South Carolina separated from the Union
