A line passes through the points (–3, –4) and (6, 2).

What is the x-intercept of this line?
Can someone please help I'm so confused

Explanation:

You have 2 points on this line.

Therefore you should be able to find the linear equation for this line

Notice you can find slope as : m = (-4 - 2) / (-3 - 6) = -6 / -9 = 2/3

use the point (6, 2) in the slope-intercept equation y = mx + b ...

I am sure you learned this equation.

we have m = 2/3

so y = (2/3)*x + b so far.

let us find the b constant

2 = (2/3)*6 + b

2 = 2*2 + b

2 = 4 + b

b = 2 - 4 = - 2

so our equation is y = (2/3) x - 2

the x-intercept is found when y= 0

so 0 = (2/3) x - 2

2 = (2/3) x

x = 3
