The black line represents your equation from Question 7. Compare the black and blue lines.

Include in your answer:

*Slope-intercept form (y=mx + b) of the blue line. Show or explain your work.
*Which line has the greater slope? How do you know?

Hint: Find the y-intercept. Then count up and over (y/x) to the next point on the line to determine the slope.

Answer:

The black line has the greater slope.

Explanation:

One way to think about which line has the greater slope is to imagine (or draw) a car on top of each line driving from left to right. If the car is driving up a steeper hill then the slope is greater.

To show your work though, starting at the y-intercept on the black line, find another point that you can see well on the line such as (3, 4). To get from the y-intercept to (3,4) go up 2 and right 3 so the slope is 2/3.

For the blue line, find a point that is easy to see such as (2, 3). To get from the y-intercept to (2, 3) go up 1 and right 2 so the slope is 1/2.

(Remember slope is y/x or rise/run)

Since 2/3 is bigger than 1/2, the slope of the black line is greater.
