The year of 2001 marked a turning point in the way we think about security in the United States. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the government was concerned with the preparedness of state and local emergency managers. Therefore, these implemented several important changes that led to better preparedness and efficiency when dealing with security threats.
The most significant result of this process at the state and local level was the fact that state and local organizations updated their protocols and agreements for emergency. This included updating response plans for chemical, biological and radiological accidents and conducting risk assessments of various areas.
