1) Lack of good roads- An extensive highway system didn't begin to be built until roughly the late 20's, early 30's, and so, unpaved, dirt roads were quite common

2) Lack of gas- Because many people did not own automobiles, it was difficult for drivers to find gas- often, they had to bring their own supply

3) Mapping: This ties to the first problem-as they weren't many good roads, travelers often used maps to find places were they could easily drive, However, these maps were often quite limited, and incomplete, since very few people, save for a few automobile enthusiasts, dedicated themselves to making maps for other drivers
