A wedding cake has two layers as shown. Each layer is in the shape of a cube. The bottom of the cube and the area where the two cakes meet are not frosted. How much of the cake is frosted?

Answer: 680

Explanation:

1. Find the smaller cake first with (lw*amount of sides) and then add it to the larger cake using the same formula.

6*6*6+10*10*6

This equals 816

2. Find the amount not frosted. The bottom and the connection. Simply, (lw).

6*6+10*10

This equals 136

3. Subtract 136 from 816.

816-136= 680 sq inches
