What is the value of x in the solution to the system of linear equations?

ly= 3x+2
ly=x-4

x=-3

Explanation:

since both equations equal ly you can set them equal to each other

3x+2=x-4

subtract 2 from both sides

3x=x-6

subtract x

2x=-6

divide by 2

x=-3
