Explanation:

the first step you can do to find the vertex is to find the axis of symmetry

the equation for that is -b/2a

-(16) / 2(-4)

-16 / 8 = -2

the axis of symmetry is x =-2 so you plug in -2 to the equation

-4(-2)^2 - 16(-2) + 1

-4(4) + 32 + 1

-16 + 33

17

the vertex is (-2, 17)
