Answer:

Because Texas was the furthest point from the Union forces, it would be the last state to experience occupation. As Union troops seized other cities and states farther to the northeast, refugees fled into Texas seeking shelter, and slave owners sent slaves to Texas to avoid liberation by the Union. Texas also played a key role in keeping its ports open and out of the hands of the Union so that much needed supplies could be shipped in for the Confederacy. Little destruction occurred in Texas since it was so far to the southwest, and most battles occurred east of the Mississippi.

Hope this Helps!

Answer:

Texas was important to the Confederacy for several reasons. It supplied soldiers and horses for the Confederate Army. The Texas Brigade was one of the most notable units in the Confederate Army. Texas was a conduit through which supplies from Europe were smuggled into the Confederacy from Mexico.
