Explanation:

okay so for linear eqns you need to find the gradient + y-intercept

y-intercept is when x = 0, in this case it is -7

now that you have the y intercept for the gradient you can either use substitution or the normal rise / run

substitution :

because we already have some other value pairs so let's use x = 2, y = -3, remember we're trying to find the m of mx + c (c = -7)

m(2) - 7 = -3

2m = 4

m = 2

we can use the other sets to confirm:

2(4) - 7 = 1

2(6) - 7 = 5

rise over run:

just take any 2 sets and find the difference in x and y and let's say I use x = 4 and 6, y = 1 and 5. now find diff. between the ys / diff. between the xs

gradient = (5-1) / (6-4)

so gradient = 2, and eqn is y = 2x - 7
