x=1 y=2

Explanation:

The problem tells you what the y stands for

5x-4(-3x+5)=-3

Distribute the -4 into the terms in the parenthesis

5x+12x-20=-3

Combine like terms

17x = 17

Divide by 17 on both sides

x= 1

Plug this value into one of the original equations

y=-3x+5

y=-3(1)+5

y=2
