Explanation:

Area of square is Length × Base

If you visualise by aligning the square to the grid lines, you will see thay it is actually 3 units = 3cm. Since all sides of the square is equal, therefore 3cm × 3cm = 9cm2

Explanation:

I'm not entirely sure this is correct. Only choose this answer if you dont get any others. If I had this problem and I didn't know how to do it I would add up the squares in the middle. Which would be 10 if u take into account that 4 are only 1/3 of a square and 4 are only half of a square and 4 are only 1/3 of a square.
