What is the result of adding these two equations?

4x - 4y = -2

-9x - 4y = -3

4x - 4y = -2

+ -9x - 4y = -3

= -5x - 8y = -6

But I suspect you want to solve for x and y.

In this case, if you want to eliminate and solve for x and y, we will subtract instead to make it easier:

= 13x + 0y = 1

13x = 1

x = 1/13

Plug x back in to get y:

4x - 4y = -2
