An empty swimming pool is to be filled to the top. The pool is shaped like a rectangular prism with length 16m, width 10m, and depth 5m. Suppose water is pumped into the pool at a rate of 40m3 per hour. How many hours does it take to fill the empty pool?

Answer:

It would take 20 hours to fill the pool.

Explanation:

We are give the Dimensions of the Pool. Recall that Volume of a Rectangular Prism is V = l*w*h which will return 800
m^(3). Using Dimensional Analysis and recalling that the rate is being pumped at a rate of
(40m^(3))/(h),
(m^(3) )/((m^(3))/(h) ) = h so, just divide the Volume by the Rate given since they are under the same units:
(16*10*5)/(40) = (800)/(40) = 20 hours.
