  • π = 3.14
  • r = 7

Find h

Step 1. Create a right triangle with the radius (attached image)

Step 2. Pythagorean Theorem

a² + b² = c²

7² + b² = 17²

b² = 289 - 49

b = √240

b or h = 4√15

Solve for SA

SA = πr(r + √(h² + r²))

SA = 3.14 · 7 · (7 + √(4√15² + 7²))

SA = 21.98(7 + √(240 + 49))

SA = 21.98 (7 + 17)

SA = 527.52 cm²
