a^2 +b ^2 =c ^2

Assuming a and b are the distances driven, and c the direct direction formed (hypotenuse)

15^2 +36 ^2 =c ^2

225+1,296 =c ^2

1,521 =c ^2

√1,521= c

c= 39 miles
