Find the slope of the line that is parallel and perpendicular to the following equation.

Convert to slope intercept form

  • 2x-y=-2
  • y=2x+2

Slope:-

  • m=2

Parallel lines have equal slope

Slope of the perpendicular line=-1/2

slope in perpendicular =

Rewrite in slope intercept form:

slope intercept form: y = mx + b || where "m" is slope and "b" is y-intercept

  • 2x - y = -2
  • -y = -2 - 2x
  • y = 2x + 2 ** identify m and b _ _ _ m = 2, b = 2 **

y-intercept: 2 --- as "b" is [+2] then x will be always 0 at y-intercept

  • y-intercept coordinates: (0, 2)

slope is same when parallel

  • slope in parallel = 2 --- as "m" is [+2]

perpendicular slope is negative reciprocal of the parallel slope

  • m1 is the parallel slope and m2 is the perpendicular slope

  • m1 * m2 = -1
  • 2 * m2 = -1
  • m2 = -1/2 --- this is the slope of perpendicular line
