Sven observes a bird on top of a light pole. His eye level is 6 feet off of the ground. Sven is 48 feet from the pole. If the distance to the bird from Svens eyes is 50 feet, how tall is the pole?

Explanation:

Let the height of the pole be '(h+6)'

Distance between the pole and Sven = 48ft.

Height of Sven = 6 ft.

Distance between the bird and his eyes = 50 ft.

We can find the value of 'h' using pythogoras theorem,

h = √(2500-2304)

h = √(196)

h = 14 ft.

The height of the pole = h + 6

= 14 + 6

= 20ft.

The height of the pole is 20ft.
