find the missing sides

all the sides are not found so you have to use subtraction to find the length of the rectangular prism by subtracting 8 from 12 you get 4.

4 is the missing length of the square. Now that we have one side of the square we know that all the other sides are 4 too. So now we have found the missing sides.

Step 2

find the volumes then add them together

the formula is V = length x width x height

So you have to substitute the numbers for both prisms in the equation.

That would be 8 x 4 x 4 = 128 cm^3

and 10 x 4 x 4 = 160 cm^3

lastly, add the two products together (160 + 128) which equals 288 cm^3.
