Answer: They are both children stories. The difference is they were written by different writers and in Phantom Tollbooth, Milo had a mission and learnt from it while in James and the Giant Peach, James dropped magic crystals on the floor that grew the peach tree.

Step-by-step explanation:

Firstly, 'James and the Giant Peach' was like all Dahl's books a way to entertain a child through sensations. The essence of the book is to make the reader almost physically taste peach while reading about it. Most especially the scene where the peach rolls last a “chocolate factory” with a chocolate river. The Phantom Tollbooth is also a children fantasy adventure novel. It helps children learn many things and it is for education and boredom.

The Phantom Tollbooth narrates the story of a bored young boy named Milo who unexpectedly receives a magic tollbooth one afternoon and, having nothing better to do, drives through it in his toy car, conveying him to the Kingdom of Wisdom, once prosperous but now troubled. In the kingdom, he acquired two faithful companions and went on a mission to restore to the kingdom its princesses on exile named Rhyme and Reason from the Castle in the Air. In the process, he learns important lessons, finding a love of learning.

In James and the Giant Peach, James also gained knowledge about the peach tree that grew. Although in both stories, the actors learnt in different ways.
