The Champaign-Urbana metropolitan area (population 150,000) has long been suffering from the heinous pathogenic bacterium, Michiganious wolverinous, which causes rabid wolverine fever. Over the past 100 years, there has been a constant mortality rate of 15 deaths per 1,000 individuals per year. Assuming that the population of the Champaign-Urbana metropolitan area has not changed in the past 10 years, what is the total mortality in the Champaign-Urbana metropolitan area the past 5 years?

Answer: 500

Explanation: The Champaign-Urbana metropolitan area (population 150,000).

Deaths per 1000 in last 100years = 15.

Assuming population hasn't changed in last 10years what's the mortality rate.

Therefore ; Mortality rate for last 100years

Years ×Deaths per 1000

= 100 × 15

= 1500 deaths

Considering population hasn't changed in last 10years.

Mortality rate for last 5years

= 5/1500 × 150000

= 500
