So in this case we have to combine alike variables for this question.

(6x+9)-(7x+1)

-9 -9

6x-7x+-8

We had to isolate in this case thats why both alike terms were getting subtracted by 9.

Then we just combining 6x-7x since they are alike terms.

-1x+8

-1x and -x are the same thing but if you want to make it more complex, the real answer is -x+8
