A pole that is 3 m tall casts a shadow that is 1 m long. At the same time, a nearby tower casts a shadow that is 44.5 m long. How tall is the tower?

Answer: 1,33.5 m

Explanation:

We can set up a proportion to solve. I will have the length of the pole / tower on the top (numerator), and the length of the shadow on the bottom (denominator). All units will be in m.


(3)/(1) =(x)/(44.5)

Now, I will cross multiply and solve for x. This will give us the height of the tower.

x * 1 = 3 * 44.5

x = 133.5 m
