Rewrite the middle term.
X^8+2x^4.1-x^4+1

Rearrange terms.
x^8+2x^4.1+1 -x^4
Factor first three terms by perfect square rule
(X^4+1)^2-x^4
Rewrite
x^4
as
(X^2)^2
(X^4+1)-(x^2)^2
Since both terms are perfect squares, factor using the difference of squares formula,
a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b)
where
a=x^4+1
and
b=x^2
