Task A

At Costco people are buying supplies for quarantine. Jose buys ten packs of toilet paper and six gallons of hand sanitizer for a total of $63.50. Sara buys eight packs of toilet paper and twelve gallons of hand sanitizer for a total of $85.
Write an equation for both shoppers, be sure to define your variables
Let x = toilet paper
Let y =hand sanitizer

Sara believes that packages of toilet paper and gallons of hand sanitizer are $4.25 each. Do you agree with her? Why or why not?
Yes I do since if I multiplied twelve by 4.25 and 8 by 4.25 I get 85 which means 85 is the total after I multiply 4.35 by each.

Use the elimination method to determine the cost of one package of toilet paper and one gallon of hand sanitizer.
Isolate x:
Isolate y:

Task B:
Target is experiencing the same buying situation! Ahmed bought four packages of toilet paper and three gallons of hand sanitizer for $$27. Dillon, being a reasonable shopper, only decides to buy two packages of toilet paper and one gallon of hand sanitizer for $12.
Write an equation for each shopper using the same variables as Task A
Let x =
Let y =

Use the substitution method to determine the cost of one package of toilet paper and one gallon of hand sanitizer.

Task C:
Based on the solutions for Task A and Task B, explain which store offers a better deal on toilet paper and which store offers a better deal on hand sanitizer. Explain your answer using mathematical evidence from Tasks A and B and mathematical vocabulary.

Task A
Jose 10x + 6y= 63.50
Sara 8x + 12y = 85

Sara = 8(4.25) + 12(4.25)
= 36 + 51
= 87
No the packages are not 4.25 each because it does not add up to 85 dollars
