A scale model of a car is 10 in. long. The actual car is 15 ft long. What is the scale of the model?

1 in. : 18 in.


1 in. : 1.5 in. Not correct. I got it wrong.

Answer:

1 in. : 18 in.

Explanation:

First convert the 15 ft to inches. 12x15 = 180

So for every 10 inches in length of the model, there are 180 inches in the actual car. 10 in. : 180 in.

10/180 can be simplified to 1/18.

For every inch in the model, there are 18 inches in the actual car.

1 in. : 18 in.

Oh this question is kinda tricky. At first glance it’s 1 : 1.5 but notice the units. The model car is 10 inches long and the actual car is 15 feet long.

I think you know where to go from there, but 15 feet * 12 inches = 180 inches.

10 : 180 simplifies to 1 : 18 inches
