Explanation:

(x + 3) ^2= 49

Take the square root of each side

sqrt((x + 3)^2) =±sqrt( 49)

(x + 3) =±7

Separate into two equations

x+3 = 7 x+3 =-7

Subtract 3 from each side

x+3-3 =7-3 x+3-3 =-7-3

x =4 x=-10
