Explanation:

Say you have these 2 fractions

(a)/(b) .........(c)/(d)

Cross multiply as following;

((b)(c))/((a)(d))=(bc)/(ad)

If in the end, both numerator and denominator are equal, then the fractions are equivalent.

Examples:

Example 1

(20)/(24)...........(5)/(6)

Cross multiply

((24)(5))/((20)(6))=(120)/(120)

They're equivalent.

Example 2

(20)/(24)........(3)/(4)

Cross multiply

((24)(3))/((20)(4)) =(72)/(80)

They're not equivalent.
