Answer: 4 2/3

Explanation:

1. ) give the two fractions a common denominator by finding the least common multiple of the two

this would give you

6 8/12 - 1 9/12

2.) You need to subtract the number of carrots from the entire bag to get the amount of celery

6 8/12 - 1 9/12 = 4 8/12

3.) you would need to simplify the fraction which would end up as

4 2/3

Answer:

4 11/12 pounds

Explanation:

The difference between the total weight and the weight of carrots will be the weight of the celery:

6 2/3 - 1 3/4 = (6 -1) +(2/3 -3/4) = 5 + (8/12 -9/12) = 5 - 1/12

= 4 11/12 . . . . pounds

George bought 4 11/12 pounds of celery.
