side = (x+5) cm

other side = (x-3) cm

Pythagoras theorem: Hypotenuse² = Base² + Base²

9² = (x+5)² + (x-3)²

81 = x² + 25 + 10x + x² + 9 - 6x

2x² + 4x - 47 = 0

Quadratic Formula

x = (-b±√b²-4ac) / 2a

x = (-4±√16+376) / 2(2)
