Willa and her friend decide to hang out at her friend’s house after basketball practice on Friday to listen to a new album by their favorite band. They have a great time listening to the music and Willa deliberately ignores texts from her dad. When she gets home, her dad is really upset with her. He didn’t know where she was. He has a rule that he needs to know where she is and that she has to ask permission before she goes anywhere. Willa thinks that since she’s in eighth grade, she shouldn’t have to do this anymore. Her dad should trust her more. Willa tells her dad that she’s not a little kid anymore and storms off to her room and slams the door. Willa’s Perspective 1. How might Willa be feeling? 2. What might she be thinking? What might she be needing or wanting?

How could understanding each other’s perspective help with the conflict?

Answer:

Willa could be frusterated with her father.

She might be thinking about how controlling her father is.

She might be wanting her father to not always be so controlling and start trusting her and let her spend time with her friends with out having to worry about texting her father.

Willa and her father could understand eachothers perspective and find out a solution to what they want to do. Since Willa is in 8th grade she is older and deserves to just chill out and not need to worry so much.
