Micah is deciding what rooms of his house he is going to paint. He wants to spend no more than $150 on the paint and supplies.

Which situation is represented by the inequality 150≥42.21+21.64x?

CLEAR CHECK

Micah spends $21.64 on paintbrushes.
Paint costs $42.21 per gallon.

How many gallons of paint, x, can he buy?

Answer:

Micah spends $42.21 on paintbrushes.

Paint costs $21.64 per gallon.

Explanation:

The paintbrushes are constant/fixed price, the number of gallons of paint are variable, the costs rises linearly with each gallon.

150 - 42.21 = 107.79

The fixed costs for paintbrushes are subtracted from his budget. He then has $107.79 left for paint

107.79 / 21.64 = 4.98105360444

Wich is, it's a pity, slightly less then 5 gallons.

he could buz 4.98 gallons. or, if it has to be a whole number, which I guess it has to be, just 4 gallons and has some money left.
