The two smaller sides must be, in sum, bigger than the biggest side of a triangle.

Picture the biggest side alone and then, right on top of it, the next smaller side attached two a corner.

Do the same with the smallest.

If they can't touch or overlap on the biggest line/side, the will also not be able to form a closed triangle.

If unsure, always just draw a problem.
