X=10, Y= 3 1/2

Explanation:

4x-2y=33...... i

X+2y=17........ ii

Adding equation I and ii

5x=50 divide both side by 5x

X=10

Substitute 10 for x in equation I we have,

10+2y=17

2y=17-10, collect the like term

2y=7 divide bother sides by 2

y=7/2,further division give us

Y= 3 1/2.
