Solve the following system of equations and show all work.

y = x^2 + 3
y = x + 5

please help me! i know that i have to do substitution or something like that but i got really confused halfway through it and i also need to show all of the work!

This is a little harder than substitution. This is more like elimination.

Eliminate one unknown by subtracting or adding the two equations.

In this case I subtracted the two to eliminate y

and because you have an exponent you will have two answers as the line passes through the parabola.

The answers are (2,7) and (-1,4)

I took the liberty to show you how to solve by elimination in the picture below and graphed it out to help prove it.

It’s a pretty tricky problem, I hope this helps!
