Three runners are jogging from North Augusta to Beech Island. Runner 1 runs 14 miles in 3 hours while .Runner 2 runs 16 miles in 4 hours. Runner 3 runs 15 miles in 6 hours. What is the average speed of each runner?

We can all agree that speed equals distance divided by time and we are asked to find out the average speed of this 3 people.

---Average speed of runner 1

Speed = distance / time

Since he ran 14 miles within 3 hours

S = 14/3

The average speed was 4.67 miles pet hour

---For runner 2,

Speed = distance / time

Since he ran 16 miles in 4 hours,

Average speed = 16/4

= 4 miles per hour

---For runner 3,

Speed = distance / time

Since he ran 15 miles under 6 hours,

Average speed = 15/6

= 2.5 miles per hour
