Step-by-step explanation:

Currently this is the hierarchy of the US courts from the Top to bottom :

- Supreme Courts

- Courts of Appeals

- District Courts

Most cases will start at district courts. If either of the party is not satisfied with the decision from the District Court, they can initiate an appeal so the trial will be repeated on Courts of Appeals.

If either of the party is unhappy with the decision made in court of appeals, they can ask for the Supreme Court to take over the case.

But this tend to be really difficult.

Each year, the Supreme court get around 7000 requests. But, they typically only take between 110-150 cases.
