I know the missing bit of information to answer this question: There are 16 ounces in a pound. So we're multiplying everything by 16 to convert pounds to ounces.

a)

3/4 pounds × 16 ounces/pound = 12 ounces

b)

5/8 pounds × 16 ounces/pound = 10 ounces

c)

12 ounces - 10 ounces = 2 ounces

d)

Winn Fruit total

W = 12 + 10 = 22 ounces

Phillips Fruit total

P = 1 3/4 pounds × 16 ounces/pound = 16(7/4) = 28 ounces

Answer: Mr. Phillips bought 6 ounces more than Ms. Winn
